laproad

earthshadow The shadow of the island of La Palma projecting up into the sky viewed from the observatories. This occurs shortly before sunrise (and sunset) and occurs because of the elevation. Early in the evening the air was very clear, allowing the Zodiacal light to be easily seen. In fact, it was so bright, that it was mistaken for light pollution. Grant Privett. June 1996.
