After several days of CMEs from large sunspot groups in Oct 2003 we finally got a day when aurora took place over the midlands and the sky was clear. This view was taken through a clear patch between two masses of rain cloud. The view is to the north and shows the bowl of The Plough. The overall colour was greenish with hints of red. Later there were a few narrow streamers, but these did not last and the display faded quickly.
